Why you always feel like you're not doing enough

The toxic side of self-growth journey

Have you ever got into self-help and personal development and then started to feel like everything you do is wrong or not good enough? Happens to the best of us.

I think where it gets sticky is because a lot of people talk about becoming a “new you” or taking on a new identity to reach new heights. This subconsciously suggests that the current you isn’t worthy.

It took me a while to find where I should draw a line. I wanted to continue on a journey of bettering myself, for my own good. But no longer wanted it to come at the expense of my present self.

First thing to ask before you’re able to draw a line - is your self-growth journey for your own good? We have a lot of expectations on us: at work, from friends, family, at work etc - have you ever sat down and thought about which expectations YOU agree with? If you haven’t, you subconsciously will be trying to meet all of them. Now layer that with thinking you’re not “being the right person” because of toxic self-help…can you see why you might feel like you’re never doing enough?

To me, self-growth is just about maximising my potential. Nothing more, nothing less. There are some days (or weeks) that I do not act like my higher self. In fact, some days I consciously act like my lower self 😂 And that’s ok. The long term is always growth. In the short term there are dips (like the stock market hehe). I just try my best to have the self-awareness to make my self-growth journey something that’s truly aligned to my beliefs, morals and desires. In the end, people will judge you anyway.

I pray you get a sign today that the breakthrough you’ve been waiting on is on it’s way.

Stay blessed,

Peace x
