CONTENT DECODER

This video shows us how to get maximum engagement with a simple script that has performed cross-platform:

Background info:

  • Creator: @caitlynkumi

  • Content type - “The growth blueprint”

  • Views & engagement at time of writing - Tiktok: 161k views, 31k likes and 1k shares; Instagram: 259k views, 20k likes and 9.2k shares

Why the VIDEO works:

  • The hook: Right off the bat, the video hits with a relatable, no-nonsense hook: "your appearance, relationships, and education" - all things most of us want to work on. Then, it promises something even better: a transformation from "insecure to confident." Punchy, direct, and instantly attention-grabbing.

  • Quick wins: Who doesn’t want instant results? The fastest way to lose your audience is to make your advice sound like a long, impossible process. Ever read Hormozi’s $100M offers? One of the main takeaways is that to make a winning offer, we need to lower the time delay and increase the perceived likelihood of success. This creator does this by emphasising early on that working on your appearance is a fast and easy area to see improvement - quick win for the creator, quicker win for the viewer!

  • The power of words: Captions these days are basically non-negotiable, but in this case, the magic is in the script. The visuals are minimal, with captions taking center stage, which means the words are what pack the punch. It's a great example of how keeping it simple can make the message even more powerful.

How you can implement this:

  • Recreate this hook:…By diving straight into three relatable areas of improvement to achieve a certain aspiration. Use these three areas to structure the rest of the video and give actionable advice for each one.

QUICK WIN HACK

How to reverse-engineer what works

I've realised content creators tend to fall into two camps: the artist and the scientist. Some of us are all about the art of it - posting on a whim, following creative vibes. Others take the scientific approach - breaking down what works, analyzing every detail, and adding their own twist. And while we naturally lean one way, I think it's crucial to get a feel for both sides. So today, we’re diving into the science of it all.

Ever seen a super simple, stripped-back video go viral (like the one above) and thought, “Wait... why is this doing so well?” Well, the secret’s usually in the script. Here’s a cool hack: you can grab a transcript of any short form video from YouTube, IG, or TikTok using a site called TokScript. Then, throw a bunch of your favorite examples that match your style into ChatGPT, and ask it to break it down like an expert for whatever platform you're on. It’ll help you tap into your inner content scientist and craft your next script with purpose.

That’s a wrap! See you next Wednesday.
